How do screens affect the eyes?

Prolonged use of computers, tablets or phones can lead to complaints such as eye strain, dryness, burning and temporary blurred vision.

Why does dryness occur?

When we concentrate on a screen, we may blink less often. This can cause tears to evaporate more quickly and the surface of the eye to dry out.

What can be done?

Looking away from the screen into the distance at regular intervals, blinking consciously, and using a suitable screen distance and lighting can help.

Is it different for children?

In children, factors such as prolonged close-up work and time spent outdoors are also considered with regard to the development of myopia. In children, it can also cause the glasses prescription to increase. If there is any doubt about a child's vision, an eye examination should be carried out.

When is an eye examination needed?

If you have a vision complaint that is new, ongoing or affecting your daily life, it is advisable to have it evaluated with an eye examination. Symptoms such as sudden loss of vision, severe eye pain or a curtain/shadow in your visual field should be evaluated without delay.
