Cornea, contact lenses and dry eye
The cornea is the transparent front layer of the eye. Dryness, infection, keratoconus, injury and problems related to contact lens use can affect the quality of vision. Stinging, redness, sensitivity to light or blurring that does not go away should be evaluated carefully, especially in contact lens users.
During the examination, the ocular surface, the tear film and the structure of the cornea are examined; when needed, corneal mapping and additional tests are performed. Depending on the underlying cause, treatment may include eye drops, changes to hygiene and lens-wearing habits, special contact lenses or other methods.
