Macular degeneration
Macular degeneration affects the macula, the area responsible for detailed and central vision. It can cause complaints such as difficulty reading text, seeing lines as crooked, being unable to make out faces or a shadow in the center of vision. Its dry and wet types can follow different courses.
The type and stage of the disease are assessed through examination and retinal imaging such as OCT. Follow-up, lifestyle adjustments and, for patients who need them, treatments such as intraocular injections are planned individually. Evaluation should not be delayed if there is a sudden change in vision or new distortion of lines.
