Retinal tears, retinal vascular occlusions and retinal diseases
Sudden flashes of light, a marked increase in floaters or a curtain-like shadow in the visual field may call for an evaluation for a retinal tear or retinal detachment. Retinal vascular occlusions, on the other hand, can cause sudden or gradual loss of vision, as well as bleeding and edema within the retina.
After a detailed retinal examination and the necessary imaging, it is decided which option is appropriate: follow-up, laser, intraocular injection or surgery. With sudden changes in vision, you should see an ophthalmologist without delay.
