What is laser treatment done for?

Laser eye surgery may be performed to reduce refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism and, in suitable patients, to remove the need for glasses or contact lenses.

What is LASIK?

In the LASIK method, a thin layer (flap) is lifted on the cornea, and after the laser is applied to the cornea, the flap is put back in place.

What is PRK?

In the PRK method, the laser is applied after the surface layer of the cornea has been removed. Healing in the first days and the process of vision becoming clear are different from LASIK; it can take a few days and can also be somewhat painful.

What is SMILE?

In the SMILE method, a small piece of tissue created inside the cornea with the laser is removed through a small incision. It may not be suitable for every refractive error and every eye structure.

Which method is better?

It cannot be said that any single method is the best for everyone. The appropriate method is determined by evaluating corneal thickness and shape, the eye's prescription, dry eye, age and lifestyle.

When is an eye examination needed?

If you have a vision complaint that is new, ongoing or affecting your daily life, it is advisable to have it evaluated with an eye examination. Symptoms such as sudden loss of vision, severe eye pain or a curtain/shadow in your visual field should be evaluated without delay.

Information note: This article has been prepared for general information purposes. Decisions on diagnosis and treatment should be made after evaluating the person's eye examination and medical condition.
